Please help:
Can a sorcerer take Improved unarmed strike, then Aesthetic mage and use a monks belt to get a monk AC bonus based on his Cha?

(I REALLY want to avoid losing a caster level by taking a level of monk.)

I read somewhere this was possible, but I am a little doubtful.

(A 'Yes' is what I'm looking for)

Thanks in advance.

Ascetic Mage allows you to use your CHA bonus when you would normally gain your WIS bonus to AC. This is not entirely clear, but I would not regard the use of a magic item to gain that ability as a normal circumstance. A straight sorcerer with Ascetic Mage would get his WIS bonus to AC regardless, provided the belt typically gave that benefit (as argued both ways above).

If a monk/sorcerer with Ascetic Mage wore the belt, he would have no problem in using his CHA bonus to AC and increasing his additional AC to that of a monk of his monk level + sorcerer level + 5. Good combination!

ok guys. Thanks alot. That is kind of what I expected.

I'm still tossing up if it's worth a level of monk or not...
Depends on what sort of character you have in mind.

Personally, I'd either take 2 levels of monk, or none, depending which best matched my character concept.

I like the way level 2 of monk gives +1 BAB, +1 to all saves, evasion and deflect arrows.

Losing one level of spellcasting normally doesn't hurt. Except when your a sorc like yourself since you'll already be 2 levels (aka 1 spell level) behind wizards of your CR which is a huge deal.
