Monster Hit Point Formula (just worked it out)

These are the elite monsters we have stats for:

pit fiend: 26 elite soldier/leader
27 * 8 + 27 = 243 hp for normal lvl 26 soldier (350 actual)

grell: 7 elite soldier
8 * 8 + 14 = 78 hp for normal lvl 7 soldier (156 actual)

grell philospher: 11 controller
12 * 6 + 16 = 88 hp for normal lvl 11 controller (224 actual)

skeletal tomb guardian: 10 brute
11 * 10 + 16 = 126 hp for normal lvl 10 brute (112 actual???)

chuul juggernaut: 23 soldier
24 * 8 + 25 = 217 hp for normal lvl 23 soldier (434 actual)

Interesting to note that the grell & chuul juggernaut have exactly twice the hp of a normal monster of their level. The skeletal tomb guardian has fewer (!) hp than a normal lvl 10??? so I'm not sure those numbers are accurate... maybe they were taken from a really blurry photo. The pit fiend has less than double the hp, the grell philosopher more than double.

If you give the grell philosopher 8 hp/level, it also has twice the hp of a normal lvl 11 (12*8+16=112). So perhaps the controller hp per level are incorrect.

I'm not sure what to make of the tomb guardian & pit fiend hit points.

The level 4 solo dragon has 5x the hp of a level 4 skirmisher.

Hey all! :)

Just got hold of the Black Dragon stats.

It does indeed seem as though Solo Monsters have both their base modifier and Con Score added and then multiplied by a factor of 5.

From that we can surmise that a Level 30 Solo Brute with Con 50 (Orcus? Or Aspect of Orcus? Tarrasque maybe?) would have hit points in the region of 1800.

As many of you have surmised there doesn't seem to be any consistency amongst the Elite stats so far.

If the Solo monster stats are x5 though, the Elite stats should be x2.

The Pit Fiend should have 486 hp. One outside possibility is that the Pit Fiend has to pay for Summoned Creatures out of its hit points? Perhaps you reduce the Pit Fiends hit points by the Bloodied totals of the Summoned creatures?

I don't understand the Skeleton Tomb Guardian at all.

Minions may just get Con Bonus x2.

Regarding the Skeletal Tomb Guardian. I don't believe it is an Elite monster. It doesn't have the standard Elite Traits that other such monsters possess.

1) 1 Action Point
2) +2 to Saving Throws

Solo monsters, by the same token, seem to have:

1) 2 Action Points
2) +5 to Saving Throws
