Monster Hit Points (Brute, Artillery, etc.)

Hi guys! :)

Its possible that the Pit Fiend has to trade some of its hit points for summoning, since the summoned creatures are indirectly part of its stat block.

I'm not sure what that trade might be, although if we change the Soldier 8 to 5.5 then it works out okay.

So 2 War Devils could be akin to 2.5 hp, or 1.25 hp per standard level each.

Or perhaps its level based/xp based. Something like take the square root of the summoned monsters XP value and reduced the Summoner's hit points by that?

486 - 126 = 360. Nope, that can't be it either.

I think it's a safe assumption that the words 'square root' did not appear in 4th edition.

Not unless we're talking about, y'know, some very odd vegetation.

It seems Nightscale has the wrong hit points also. As a level 4 Solo Lurker with Con 16, she should have 230 hp, but is listed for 280 (as if she was a Skirmisher/Soldier/Controller).

The level 4 solo dragon is listed as a skirmisher, in the stats that I've seen.
Really? That would make sense, but I've only seen it listed as a lurker (both in Raiders of Oakhurst and in ThirdWizard's monster collection).

Where did we see the true stats for the Young Black Dragon, anyway? Anyone looked at the stat page from Scalegloom Halls?

He he! :D

Yes I agree, was just throwing ideas out there. No doubt the answer will be something simple, I just haven't worked it out yet.

It could be they simply made a mistake on its hit points, or rather, hadn't fully worked the mechanic through at the time of posting. But the fact that the Pit Fiend is still the only monster we have seen (so far) with any summoning ability and it has a real dearth of hit points (according to the formula anyway - for what its worth) leads me to believe the two may be linked.
