D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Monstrosities Video

I'll be honest with you guys, I've always felt creature categories were a bit arbitrary. I can live with it, but how do you define a creature as "unnatural" in a fantasy world?
Can a fey creature be undead? Or transformed by magic into a monstrosity? Goblins are fey, but are they not also humanoid?

Yeah, I've never really cared for the monster categories of D&D. I'd rather them be used like tags.

A goblin would by #humanoid and #fey. One of those four-armed goblins from Eberron would add #monstrosity or #aberration.

If you say so...however, I submit the original mosquito version.

It is interesting. I was assuming all playable species might be moving to all be humanoids. That is clearly not the case. I wonder if that means gnolls are still on the table for a PC option? @Charlaquin , what do you think?
They already confirmed that all Humanoid blocks in the MM will be generic NPCs. The PHB went out of it's way to mention that non-Humanoid player Species were a possibility even though the base 10 were all Humanoids.

Notably, it seems like PC Goblins, Kobolds, Kenku, and others may be getting a secret buff in that they’ll be immune to Charm Person.
I am not disparaging WotC, but I think they forgot/missed immune to Charm Person when they were doing their changes.
