Monster Manual: How Much Cut?

The 2E MC, the hardback one that came out in the early '90s, was the single best monster book for any game, that I've ever come across.

The white cover Monstrous Manual? Hell yeah. My best friend and I pooled our ill-gotten pre-teen funds to buy that book. I'll be glad to return to something similar to that format as well.

Not quite sure why, but making cyclopses(?) Fey somehow clicks for me, even though the cyclops is from Greek myth and the Feywild is more of a Northern European folktale sort of thing.

Some fey creatures come from Greek myth (satyrs and dryads for example). I have no problem with the cyclops being a fey creature in 4e. They never fit in with the other giants of Greek myth (for the most part, too civilized and friendly to the gods).

The correct (as in original) plural of cyclops is cyclopes, but few people would use that form today. In English, it is correct to use the original plural form or to follow normal English rules of pluralization for words borrowed from Greek and Latin. I'm a classicist and I usually use the anglicized plurals for most words (although I am pedantic enough to say cyclopes in my own game).

That book is what got me into D&D.

It had me at the picture of the Terrasque. <3

I just really pray that the 4E books in general are designed by someone with a stronger aesthetic sense than the 3E ones (and have a lot less red and yellow everywhere).
I'd really just like electronic format myself. (*Fingers crossed*.) I much prefer being able to cut-and-paste my relevant monsters into encounter descriptions (kind of like the Delve format) rather than have to flip back and forth for mixed groups. So I hope the reference to providing cheap electronic copies of the books to owners holds true!
