Monster Manual II v.3.5?

Should I buy Monster Manual II? Or should I wait for the 3.5 version?

Come on, you *know* they're gonna release one... ;)

Seriously though, *are* they? :(

I like my MM2. It's plenty usable for 3.5 which is what I run and play. They'll probably release another monster book for 3.5 but I don't think they update just it to 3.5. It'll probably have more in it than that.

The closest the MMII will get to 3.5 is the Conversion Document availiable for download on WoTC's website. It's still a good book, and WoTC's got enough new product to avoid reprinting books unless they have to.

Demiurge out.

I doubt whether any of the books with conversion docs (I'm sorry, update docs) on the WotC website will see updated versions. I do expect an eventual MM3 by whatever name, or maybe a FF2.

The MM2 is awesome- it's got a few really really cool monsters in it (avolakia!). I give it two thumbs up. The FF too, actually.

Nope. I feel 99.9% positive they won't release a 3.5E MM2. Why? Because WotC wants to avoid the backlash that would be generated by re-issuing 3.5E versions of books that already got 3E printings.

Between the new Core Rulebooks, the upcoming new Expanded Psionics Handbook, and the Player's Guide to Faerun, they know they're already pushing their market, and don't want to make it any worse for people who already picked up older books. If it's in the D&D 3.5E Revision booklet (downloadable for free here), then it almost certainly won't get a 3.5E printing.

Agreed Al. The chances of them doing a 3.5 MM II are about as good as the Cubs winning the world series 5 times in a row. Or Mike Tyson not eating someone.

Personally, I thought MMII was full of badly designed monsters that should not have got past the editors, especially those responsible for checking the rules. The ideas were good but the execution broke the balance of the established core rules (eg: check out the banshee and the famine spirit and explain how come they have so many hit dice). Coincidentally, the 1E MMII did this too.

Fiend Folio, however, was superb, IMO.
