Monster Manual II v.3.5?

Narleth,

At least in CC Revised they fixed the art for Sandmasker. I liked that one better than the previous art work done for it, either MM II or CC 1. But then that's just me.

I will say MM II does have some nice art work.

Der,

Hey I'm an original idea! :p :)

Really? I think I've seen setting pimps before.... :) Anyway, it really is time you converted to the wonders of Midnight and Dawnforge.

Felon,

I agree with your comments about the MMII monsters (the braxat seems at home on Dark Sun but in a generic product it does indeed seem like it was randomly generated). Throw in the broken rules I mentioned in my earlier post and I think it is a particularly sub-standard product.

I thought the art was also fairly weak in MMII. Two random examples:

- Flesh jelly = giant scrotum.
- Jermlaine. Not sure who the artist is but I really wish he would stop doing illustrations for WotC. I find both his colour or B&W works are simply appalling.

ROFL!

I like the MMII for the Raggamoffyns. A lot of the higher level monsters give me great ideas too. Not to crazy about most of the demons/devils and the artwork is lacking in some places but all in all I'm pretty happy with it.

Heh, I'll be chuckling about that flesh jelly thing all day.

The worst monster art in a WotC book goes to...

Century Worm!

All fear the monstrous penis!

Should I buy Monster Manual II? Or should I wait for the 3.5 version?

Come on, you *know* they're gonna release one... ;)

Seriously though, *are* they? :(

I doubt it.

If you want more big 3.5 monster collections pick up CC revised, CCIII, the upcoming CCIV, Dangerous Denizens, or Minions Complete (pdf). I'm not sure if the midnight minions one (only 64 pages though) is 3.5 or not or the Warcraft manual of monsters (I don't know if warcraft has differences from 3.5).

Midnight's Minions of Shadow and Warcraft's Manual of Monsters are both 3.5E products.

If I ever meet Jeff Easley, I'll have to personally thank him for that picture... just because of this post. :D

EDIT: I'd also like to wonder who's idea that was? I can think of Easley drawing a bunch of different pictures and the Art Director saying, "No, no no. Make it look more like a penis." :p

As for the rest of the MMII art, it seemed pretty lopsided. Some of it atrociously bad, some of it was superbly awesome (Tempest anyone?).
