Have you examained the book at all or are you just stating your feelings on it sight unsee. I'm not trying to be snarky, but the whole point of this thread was to determine the opinion of those that have the book, not of the general hype and feelings on MM IV. Again not trying to be harsh, but hopefully you and others who do not have the book, or have not examained the book thoroughly are not voting in the poll.

I have not voted and will not vote for that reason.

That they've increased the fluff count for the new critters is nice.

That we get more of the same, though, isn't. I don't care about having drow take up space in a MM outside of the first -- unless they did not appear at all in the first, which I would have been perfectly fine with.

Beside, I've a dozen bestiaries already. While it's true to avoid saturation the Monster Manual line needs to reinvent itself, I'm not sure a compendium of classed critters from the MM1, sprinkled with Spawns of Tiamat, was the way to go.

MMIII failing to bring in enough money is the only reason that I can think of for them changing the format so drastically in MMIV.

I think we're getting a look at the core Monster Manual for 4th ed personally.

Something to faciliate ease of use right out of the box.

BTW, anyone who wants to add a review of the Monster Manual IV to the system, please do so. It's been added this morning with it's first review (3 stars).

Monster Manual IV: The book people just can't stop bellyaching about. :\

This is mild. Check out the reviews for the Gamma World PH on rpg.net for some serious flames over a gaming book.

Imagine that! Having some standards or something and not having them be met? Man, people should just learn to sit back and be quite. :p

I think the MMIV is below average, but I don't think I hated it as much as other people did. I did find a few monsters I liked and sometimes I like the challenge of finding uses for crappy monsters in my game - the spawn of Tiamat might find themselves renamed and given a new background for this purpose. :) I agree that the stat block is good and I can see myself using the monsters with levels in a pinch - though when I determined how much of the book they took up I was definitely disappointed.

If I knew what was in the book before I bought it (I ordered it through a friend who owns a comic book store), I probably would have passed on it though.
