Monster that splits in two

I'm looking to create a monster that has an ability to split into two identical creatures when it gets damaged a certain amount.

Are there any existing monsters that have an ability like this? I would be interested in how the mechanics work.

I'm actually trying to tweak the Kam monster from Frost and Fur. THis monster supposedly has an ability like I posted above, but the description of the mechanics on how it actually does this is extremely light, and IMHO, inadequate.
