Monsterous Humanoid and Dopplegangers

SImple question out there for the forumites. A doppleganger:

Change Shape (Su)

A doppelganger can assume the shape of any Small or Medium humanoid. In humanoid form, the doppelganger loses its natural attacks. A doppelganger can remain in its humanoid form until it chooses to assume a new one. A change in form cannot be dispelled, but a doppelganger reverts to its natural form when killed. A true seeing spell or ability reveals its natural form.

Ok, well the question is, with Monsters, in the Monster Manual, I could have sworn I read, near the beginning of the book, that creatures that had Monsterous Humanoid in the descriptor field, could classify as either. Monsterous, or Humanoid.

To clarify, would a doppleganger be able to change into a Gargoyle to be able to fly? If not, what other creature can they change into to be able to fly? Raptorians are not allowed, before that is thrown out there.

Monstrous Humanoids are not Humanoids. They are two separate creature types.

Thus, a doppleganger could not assume the form of a Gargoyle and fly. However, it could assume the form of an avariel (a winged elf).

OK, two things. First of all, Dopplegangers are actually Medium Monsterous Humanoids themselves. Doesn't that seem kinda the basis as to how they are able to change shape? If they couldn't assume Monsterous Humanoid figures, then they can't be dopplegangers either.

Next, Avariels. Seems like a perfect choice. Anyone know where I can get some basic info on them? I am assuming Medium Size, but anything else? I am needing flight speed, Extraordinary attacks, and and pertinent information like level requirements for being able to fly. (Raptorians need 4 HD to be able to fly, and I only have 2HD, with 3 classes in monster due to template for Doppleganger set forth by DM)

Thanks for the help!

They don't assume doppleganger shape... they merely revert to it because that's their natural shape. Meaning they could not use Change Shape (Su) to assume the form of a different-looking doppleganger than themselves, nor could they use Change Shape (Su) to assume the form of any other creature with the Monsterous Humaniod type.

Like elves, except for:
+4 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis.
Keen Sight (Ex): +4 racial bonus to Spot checks (replaces the standard elven +2).
+4 racial bonus to Jump checks.
Proficient with rapier or longsword, plus lasso and bolas. Replaces standard elven proficiencies.
Flying speed 50 ft (Average). Can't fly in Heavy armor or with a Heavy load, or when fatigued/exhausted.
Dive attack: Inflicts double damage when charging at least 30 ft downward, and wielding a piercing weapon.
