Monsters as characters....Anyone?

Ran a game up to ~15th level. Players started getting some wierd party members towards the end:

Had a Minotaur Sorceror - really nice character concept, the guys magic fell rather badly behind compared the 2 non-ecl casters. Worked out fine for the player, but I don't think it'd be for everyone.

Same game had an ogre fighter - unspurisingly he was an incredibly vicious melee machine. However, he earned the name 'Glassjaw' as he had a fairly low HP and some really bad saves...

One of my players is an 8th-level ghaele eladrin. I messed with its abilities a bit to make it more of a bard/mage instead of a fighter/cleric, and so far it's working out really well. The group is predominantly a bunch of combat-types, so she's really enjoying being the contracting character. No real problems so far.

An all-fey'ri party, save one human. (demonic-blooded elves, with alter self to humanoid form, bat wings, a few spell like abilities.... a LA +2 race.) Its an Evil campaign.
I am finding them to be... unpredictable. When they can make good use of their powers they mop up the floor with opponents of CR above their ECL, but they can suffer greatly from enemies below their ECL if their special powers don't come to bear.

I have a Shapeshifter character who'll be picking up levels of Monk. In practice, think Odo of DS9, and you have a pretty good idea of what to expect. She's a grappeling machine, and has killer DR, but energy attacks waste her, so she's very fragile around Mages. Cool character; I like playing such an alien mind more than her actual abilities, but those are awful fun, too.

- Kemrain the Amorphous.

I'm running City Of the Spider Queen with 3.5 rules and the following party:

- Drow Sorcerer (the only "standard" race)
- Pixie Rogue
- Troll Fighter
- Shade Fighter ("Shade" is a FRCS template)
- Minotaur Fighter

Last session the Minotaur Fighter fell from a single round of attacks from a Noble Salamander. He wasn't buffed at all, so his AC wasn't enough, and his hp certainly were not up to par... thankfully the player decided to play a human ranger next.

The pixie is handling much better than I could have predicted, due to his Improved Invisibility and flight capabilities... plus, his "memory loss" arrows saved him a couple of times against enemy wizards. He's rightfully scared whenever someone with "see invisibility" comes along... that's for sure.

And the shade is a real ass-kicker... as his special abilities work ALL THE TIME while in the Underdark.

I run a world, where 2 characters are playing Planars, 1 character is playing a celestial titan, and another character is playing a celestial agent with abilities that let him change his appearance, and such... they are only 15th level, and do not have anywhere close to the power that they will have.... for now though they are loving it. And I'm enjoying the challenge of creating monsters that make them constently worry why I would allow them to play such powerful creatures.

12th level sorceress Succubus here (+8 succubus levels, bringing it to a whopping 20 levels o' lovin'). Was an NPC but when my original PC got too powerful (21st level wizard/12 level cleric) and the adopted daughter of my original PC (don't ask).

Needless to say, the uber charisma and spell casting abilites are amazing but to actually rp a succubus is... hmmm... There are words... Needless to say I am ok with the standard races now :D

Giant Owl Psion (Egoist), nicknamed "Tweety", made for a ECL~15 game. He had Leadership, with a Ranger cohort to run errands and shoot from his back. Everyone thought the guy was a Paladin and that I was an exotic mount, and forgot that Giant Owls have a base INT of 10. Most of my powers were buffs or healing-related, except for Polymorph Self, which was practically a necessity.

Anyway, loads of fun.
