Just picked up the original Monsters of Faerun, and downloaded the 3.5 conversion from Wizards to try and update it, when I noticed something very early in the Asabi entry- the new skill points they allocate don't quite work!
The Asabi- now a Monstrous Humanoid (which I agree with)- still only has 18 skill points to allocate so its new skills are designated in the conversion:
Hide +7, Move Silently +7, Jump +17
Hide and Move Silently, minus the Asabi's Dex bonus (+1), get a total number of ranks in each as +6 (which is fine, as its the max it could have).
Jump +17, even minus the +3 from Skill Focus (which it picked up as a new feat), gets +14, minus the remaining 6 skill points- for a total of +8 over and above? Where'd that extra come from?
The stingtail is worse:
Hide +1 - 0 (no Dex bonus) +4 (size penalty of -4) = 5 ranks
Jump +11 -2 (Str bonus) - 3 (Skill focus) = 6 ranks
Move Silently +3 - 0 (no Dex bonus) = 3 ranks
Total is 14 ranks, but with a -2 Int penalty (6 Int), the most skill points a Stingtail could have is 10 (2 + Int mod, min. 1 x 10)
Now, I could easily see these creatures getting a racial skill bonus to Jump, as in 3.0 they are described as being natural jumpers. Only there doesn't seem to be a standard here. I don't think the Stingtail's size penalty to Hide was taken into account in either edition, but in any case, there's something screwy going on. Even the little blurb on Asabi/Stingtail PCs in Serpent Kingdoms doesn't mention anything about Jump skill bonuses.
Any thoughts? Or ideas on what sort of bonus to Jump these guys might get?
