Monsters of the Desert

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
i was looking to get a list together of desert monsters that haven't yet officially been converted to 3.5 D&D. in the Creature Catalog, we have a few such as the dracosphinx, dustdigger, rakasta, and vulturehound.

i'm sure there are quite a few in campaign worlds too, such as Dark Sun, Al-Qadim, and the Horde setting.

got any more ideas? :)

Humm, do we know what's in Sandstorm yet? Frostburn had a pretty big monster chapter, including some old goodies updated (eg. yeti). Personally, I'd wait another few days or weeks for it to come out before gettin' too wild on the updates. :)

They may not be normally considered desert creatures, per se, but does anyone know if the Chaggrin (Earth Grue) has been converted anywhere? Seems like they'd work well in the desert.

Complete Arcane has the grues.

I love to see how the Vizier's Turban (Al-Qadim) is done in 3e. It's so weird, it was a hell of a thing for me to try and convert.

it’s a good choice. :) it was in Monstrous Compendium Annual 2, but where did it appear before that?

I wasn’t going to do anything just yet – I was just getting my list together so I know what’s left over after the book comes out. :)

I saw it in either the Corsairs campaign book or the Caravans campaign book...checking hard drive archive of practically all free www.wizards.com material...

..and it was in the Corsairs of the Great Sea campaign sourcebook, along with the Sea Wyrm, the Ghul-Kin, the Firethorn (Sea Rose), the Amiq Rasoul, and the Addazahr (Backbiter).

Darksun it is. I don't have my 3.0 Athas.org list or Pazio's 3.5 before me but here are the 2.0 critters I don't recall seeing updated-

Terrors of the Desert (3 hole binder)
Antloids- Dynamis, Soldier, Queen and Worker
Bogwader
Brambleweed (and tree)
Burnflower
Ca'thrang

Cistern Fiend
Drakes (the 4 elements)
Dune Runner
Dune Trapper
Erdland
Flailer
Floater
Id Fiend
Jankz
Kip
Plants: Carnivorous- Blossomkiller, Dew Fonds, Poisonweed
Pterrax
Pulp Bee
Pyreen
Sand bride
Sand Cactus
Scrab
Sinkworm
Tagster (psionic cat)
T'Chowb (a fun nasty)
Thrax (moisture vampire)
Tohr-kreen (Darksun Thri-kreen)
Z'Tal

Campaign Book
Silk Wyrm
Spider Cactus
Spider, Crystal

Halfling book: Riders of the cliffs book
Life-shaped Creations- Climbdog, Darkstrike, Protector, Shieldbug, Watcher, Ber-ethern,
Yihn-eflan, Gon-evauth and Dhev-sahr

Ivory Triangle
Salt Zombie

Valley of Dust and Fire
Jhakar

No doubt I missed some and some of these have been covered but I don't remember them.

Thri-kreen Book
Jalath'gak (a must to be done!!!!!)
Zik-trin'ak (brutal monstrous Thri-kreen)

City by the Silt Sea book and adventure
Venger

Dragon #234 Dust Skeletons, Defiling Skeletons (another must!!!!)
Dragon #239- Stirge-Desert

All of the above Dark Sun creatures, with the exception of the life-shaped, have been converted over to 3.5 by athas.org. The majority are in Terrors of Athas and the undead and some of the vermin are in the just-completed 3.5 release of Terrors of the Deadlands (due out any day now). We started work on the life-shaped project the day before yesterday, as it happens :). Dust skeletons and deserts stirges aren't specifically DS critters, so we left those out.
