Monsters with Descriptive Names?

Boingy! Boingy!
Scarecrow: Appears to be a common crow, but can cause fear with a peck.

Fraidycat: Same idea as above, basically, but applied to a housecat.

Bugbear: Part dire bear, part monstrous vermin, all terror.

Boogey-Man: A man made of boogey. IOW, a humanoid with some sort of ooze template and ranks in Perform (dance).

Frankenstein's Monster: A creature that belongs to a little "beer genie" named Frank. Frank lives in a stein.

Bee-holder: A golem powered by a swarm of bees with collective sentience. Even if you destroy the outer body, the bees within are deadly.
 

Wear-wolf What appears to be a wolf skin cloak that during the nights of the full moon stalks it's owner, eating them...

These are both better than 90 percent of monsters in published works, IMO.
 

Goblin: Lynn, completely made of saliva.
Ankhkeg: Egyptian frat boy all boozed up.
Frost Worm: It snubs you at parties.
Harpy: She sings and urinates.
Tarrasta: Reggae-infused music monster made of black tar.
Allip: pphhhhhhhhhhhbbbbbbphhhtttt!
Formian: Lynn's husband Ian, when he's not ethereal.
 

(Apologies in advance for the really obscure linguistic references :p )

Lich: Template applied to a monster after it's dead
Skeleton: Template applied to a monster after it's dead for some time
Werwolf: Template applied to a wolf after it's dead
Ghost: A monster you can still see after it's gone away
Goblin: An annoying monster which keeps spitting at Lynn. She really wants it to stop
Dryad: A wetad which has spent to long in the sun
Dragon: Monsters you start hallucinating about 6 hours into a Lord of the Rings extended edition all-night showing
Golem: After 7 hours you could swear that little grey fellow's speaking Yiddish
Orc: Medium sized seabird with a stripy beak
Black pudding: Congealed pigs blood. Delicious. Trust me, it is
White pudding: Congealed you-don't-want-to-know. Trust me, you don't
Balor: King of the Fomorians. Got promoted to a major demon and cloned after a copyright dispute he knew nothing about
Treant: Colonial insect which lives in trees. Found out they could make the trees walk around after said copyright dispute
Hobbits: Early field artillery

I've statted out Balor of the Evil-Eye for 3.5. He's a nifty villain. :)
 

Owlbear a combination owl and bear
Land Shark - a big shark like beast that swims through land
Rust Monster - a wierd monster that rusts metal it comes across

No wait, that's not quite right for this thread somehow. :heh:
