I really need some help im staring to run my own game and i want to run monsters. I was told by one person that in 3.5 they can just use the level ajustment like +4 and get all the ablities. Now another person told me that when doing a monster game you are to add the HD and the level ajustment to get the correct char level. Could somone tell which it right of if they are both wrong?

In 3.5, Players who are running monsters add their HD and thier LA together to determine their effective character level. ECL

Now, just want to mention, those ECL numbers are set to protect PHB races. If you want to encourage PCs playing monsters, you might want to find some way to drop those numbers slightly. But the ins and outs of that can be complex.
