Nope. I dont' really like the idea of Mind Flayer Paladins or a Half Dragon/Half Elemental Swashbuckling rogues as party members. Most monster races are not going to be welcome in human civilizations as it is and since humans dominate it would be very difficult. Monster PC's don't fit in with the type of game I want to run or play.

That's generally true for me as well. However, I have no problem with campaign settings that might feature relatively civilized nations of hobgoblins, for example, which would potentially open up that race for play. Also, any game that has PC races of half-elf and elf, and half-orc should probably add orc and not call it too far off, I would think.

I add a highly qualified "yes" to this poll.

In my homebrew campaign, I allow half-ogres, half-trolls, and half-goblins, because half-orcs (nor orcs) don't exist. Half-ogres are the closest to monsters I get; they have +4 STR, -2 INT -2 WIS -2 CHA, and also are large creatures; they suffer a -1 penalty to AC, a -1 penalty to hit, but they have larger carrying capacities than medium characters. They add flavor to the campaign, and so far only one person has had the gumption to step up and play one, because most all the players don't want all those penalties in exchange for higher strength.

So, no Grell Monks, Catoblepas Fighters, or Medusa Bards, thank you - but a touch of the monstrous goes a long way. :)

i said yes, but its never happened... and it would only be under certain circumstances. and theres one player i would probably not allow...

Well, I like Oathbound and Planescape...

....that should be enough to tell you my position on monstrous PC's....

*goes of whistling about his gelatinous cube PC, or his spellweaver in a short one-shot....*

one of my most memorable characters was a Kobold Cleric of Vecna.

Then there was my Gnoll Cleric of Belsameth (in a Lodoss War-inspired campaign).

Oh, and I played a Mind Flayer for one session. He got himself imprisoned by a draw from a Deck of Many Things, after losing 4 points of Intelligence to it...

And in one of the games I'm playing in currently, one of the PC's is a Werebear Psychic Warrior who's got 3 levels in a psionics-modified version of the Dragon Disciple PrC. He's truly frightening.

I'll also allow a qualified yes. It depends on the race in question, the player in question, and if its for backstory or someone trying to get 'kewl powers.'

Though I have just decided that should anyone ask, grell are allowed to all players ;)

Yep.

I too voted 'yes', but with less of an asterix than some. It depends on the player because I refuse to hand over game hogging ability to someone that will abuse it.

That's the biggest problem with monstrous PC's, the ability to grab the stage and refuse to yield it. Hate that.

Still, my current game has a minotaur and a half-celestial. Ginchy.

I've played, orks, koboblds, a gold dragon, a beholder, a skeleton (didn't have much talking part, but a former knight of Solamnia), half faerun elf (her mother was a water nymph), plane hoping pixie, and a nigthmare creature, I've also played demon... and a doppleganger.
