Freeport's pretty good, but for my examples I was just naming off well-known fantasy cities. The level of detail in Ptolus, based on the web previews, in that one book may well approach the level of detail for Waterdeep, IF you combined ALL of the previous 20 years of TSR and WotC supplements for Waterdeep into one volume. It's that explicit.

You're preaching to the choir, Henry: I pre-ordered some time ago and read the Ptolus website like you! :) I'm just wondering (off thread) if Freeport is that detailed. If the amount of detail is equal to -strictly- the City of Splendors supplement, I won't even bother.

As for your theory that Ptolus might exceed Waterdeep's level of detail, all resources combined, I'd say Ptolus will exceed it, in fact. I've never had the feeling Waterdeep was that detailed as to be able to imagine every street and feel... like I've been there, so to speak, by reading a book/boxed set/whatever. I've had this impression with Laelith for instance, or Havena. Yes, these cities were that good, and I expect Ptolus to join their ranks. :D

Damn... you know, I have to say that the Monteverse (as I've taken to calling it) is beginning to look like a place I'm going to have to try adventuring in one of these days. Between Arcana Evolved, Beyond Countless Doorways, The Complete Book of Eldritch Might, and now Ptolus, there is a hell of a lot of material there- and it definitely appeals to the Planescape fan in me.
