Monte's AU races

Maybe this stuff would speak to you better if it were presented in a published adventure, sort of "showing the way" or providing an example.

Monte is a flavor-freak and it sounds like he is on the right track with this. Good way to go, IMO. I'll probably never run the AU as it is in the book but will use it for inspiration for homebrews and the like. I believe that is partically why he is doing this in the first place: to show that it can be done on a large scale using d20. :)

He explained about the power lvl by having each race having a different lvl advancement to balance it out, I think it will be more balanced then we can tell right now. It is new and it will be OGL so he has a lot more freedom to "build it right" from the ground up. I for one think this will be real cool and like the teasers.

Also and I quote"." Let me say right now that I am no real fan of "furry fantasy" -- a subgenre of SF/F in which all the characters are anthropomorphic animals. "

So the "furry" is not something he was shooting for also the stats for the feline race was for his D&D campaign and he stated it was being altered for AU--so I am not "defending" Monte I am just telling people to look at what he is posting, he is also playtesting them so things may get tweaked as playtesting continues, relax, I think this will be a real cool fresh face for a fantasy D&D game.

Hmm. I really like the sound of the giants and the runechildren, and I think the faen could be cool or cheesy, depending on how they're handled.

But the lion-men and the hyena-men leave me kinda cold. I don't like furry fantasy, and when I say that, I mean I don't like furry fantasy. I don't want to play in a world with lion-men.

The anubis-guys might not be so bad: I do like gnolls, and maybe these guys will be like gnolls.

I'm likely to buy this book, and I'm likely to steal certain races from it (most especially the rune-children). But the littorals are not my cup of tea.

De gustibus, don'tcha know....

So you don't like the hyena-men, but D&D standard hyena-men are all right?

Dan, I'd apologize for being unclear, but really I'm confused. What part of "the anubis-guys might not be so bad" was unclear?

Nothing really, you just said you disliked furry-fantasy, but like gnolls. I thought the contradiction was amusing. Don't mind me, I'm operating on a couple hours of sleep, pretty much everything is funny now.

Picture a chicken wearing pinstripe slacks.

I dunno, I think it's kinda funny. :D
