monthly mithral question

Starship Cartographer
Weapons or armors fashioned from mithral are treated as
masterwork items with regard to creation times, but the
masterwork quality does not affect the enhancement bonus of
weapons or the armor check penalty of armor.

Can you have a masterwork mithral longsword?
If so, does it get +1 to hit?
Can you have a non-masterwork one?

Yes. Basically, with the craft skill, you have to use the "masterwork component" two times, at 300gp value each time. Then it is both masterwork and mithral. Imagine how long it would take to forge a weapon that had a base cost of several thousand gp!

Yes to all, AFAIK.

Yep. The 'creation time' clause is merely to make it so that the average smith can complete a mithril work in his lifetime - otherwise he'd be at it for years using the rules in the PHB.

(Similar things should probably be done for other items with valuable raw materials like silver, gold, & gemstones - otherwise jewelers work for years on a single ring.)

Which is just the way it needs to be done to craft a good quality mithril weapon/armor.

*leaves mubbling something about stupid short lived human smiths trying to craft mithril*
