Pre-orders are live for the upcoming Forgotten Realms books, with one D&D Beyond listing providing some new details about digital DLC released alongside the books. Posted today on D&D Beyond, the "Forgotten Realms Ultimate Bundle" will include three digital expansions - Astarion's Book of Hungers, Netheril's Fall, and a third "secret" expansion to be named later. The digital expansions will be gradually released over a three week period. Astarion's Book of Hungers will include new player options, while Netheril's Fall will be an adventure book of some kind. Page count is not available, but currently the only way to get these three digital expansions will be through buying the "Ultimate Bundle," which has a whopping price point of $159.99 and includes both physical and digital versions of the other Forgotten Realms books.

What (little) information we know was provided by D&D Beyond and can be seen below:

  • Astarion’s Book of Hungers: a digital expansion where players can indulge in their vampire desires with new player options, monsters, and adventure content – all shared by Astarion himself! | Release Date: November 11, 2025
  • Netheril’s Fall: a digital expansion where players can explore the lost Netherese Empire in a time traveling adventure | Release Date: November 18, 2025
  • A secret third digital expansion – to be revealed soon! | Release Date: November 25, 2025

The difference between the ultimate physical bundle ($159.99) and the digital bundle ($126.93) is $33.06? That's insanity.
I suspect it's because, either by policy or by contract, they can't or won't offer a deal that prices the digital books at less than what the game stores sell the physical books at. No undercutting. They can only offer a discount on the digital-physical package deals, or on the Beyond exclusive DLC part, or something like that.

But the digital versions of all the 2024 core books and of Dragon Delves are sold for $30, so - if your explanation is correct - it must be a new policy.

If the DLC is only available as part of the print/digital bundle . . . that's going to upset me. I would like to get the special edition covers of these two books at my FLGS and then pick up the digital copies on D&D Beyond.
Everyone else was so confident these were going to be free, and only contain short adventures

I hate digital exclusives, especially when you have to buy the overpriced "Ultimate Bundle" to get it.

Feels like all the worst things about the EA and Ubisoft business model for video games, but now applied to my favorite analog hobby.

Not surprised, just disappointed.
You say it, and everyone applauds. I say it and people try to argue about vegetarianism.

Everyone? Nah. Unless we're hanging out in different threads . . .

And there has been a lot of speculation about what they would contain, including speculation on player options, more campaign frames, and adventures. Which is pretty much what we are getting.

And they ARE free . . . if you purchase the print/digital bundle . . . OR (I just learned) the digital-only bundle, of the two FR books. I'm not sure it's been confirmed if you will be able to get them AT ALL separately from the bundles, but if they are made available, I'm assuming they will cost money.

And I'm totally OK with that. Why should they be free, outside of the bundles?

paying $60 more for a bundle than for the two (digital) books on their own makes the additional content a lot of things, but free is not one of them

And I'm totally OK with that. Why should they be free, outside of the bundles?
they are not free inside the bundles either, they are about $20 per DLC

Also, the 2 digital books are more expensive than the two physical books. I've always argued for the digital copies having worth and value against those who think digital should always be free with physical, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen the digital copies be more expensive than the physical copies, especially given all of the randomly changing tariff stuff going on. Huh.
I'm not sure that I understand. The Heroes book is $30 for digital and $50 for physical. The other one is $34/$60.
