More Epic Rules in PHB II, perhaps?

It occurrs to me that the new PHB II might include the rules for epic spell creation. Since the main epic rules were included in the first DMG, it would seem sensible to include those in some type of "core" release. Besides, normal spells are included in the PHB, so it would make sense to include the epic equivalents in a player resource. That would still leave the epic monsters and magic items unaccounted for...

I realise some folks want all of the epic rules in one book, but I wonder how the gaming audience would react to such a title, now that so much of those rules have been updated already in DMG, the complete series, etc...

I really don't think this is going to happen. For one thing, it'd have to have the rules on epic spell creation, and at least a smattering of the already-printed epic spells, which'd probably push the page count higher than they want.

That's saying nothing about the fact that it just doesn't seem likely that they'll reprint existing material for the PHB II. You said that that would leave epic magic items unaccounted for...well, by the logic of the scenario you're postulating, they'd have reprinted those in the DMG II, but that's not what happened. More likely that, if they were going to reprint the epic spell rules in a more player-oriented book, it'd have been in the 3.5E PHB.

I think they'd react to it pretty well, given the results in this thread. Likewise, the DMG updated the most basic rules, but not much else (though the SRD was pretty good about that). Likewise, the Complete series added very little to the epic material. I honestly would love to see an overhauled 3.5E ELH.

Now there is an understatement. The ELH needs to be taken into a dark lot, shot until it stops moving, burnt at a stake, its remains dunked in an acid bath for a week and then eaten by a Barghest.

Then, they might actually get a chance of making a decent job out of what should be post-20th level guidelines.

Agree with ya. I didnt really care for the ELH stuff at all myself (well, except maybe epic spell creation...interesting formulas/instructions to do it...but everything else, and the spells....not what I had in mind for 20th+ level)

Because, of course, the MMII and DMGII were both packed with recycled material, so of course the PHBII will be also.

OK, so I was working solid for the past two weeks and away from all internet contact, but when was PHB II announced? Was this a GenCon thing?

What have we been tolda about a PHB II and annyone have any links?

In other words, everything about a PHB II is pretty much speculation. Amazon has been known to goof on product listings before.

Well, time will tell I suppose.

Ooops,

One more thing I noted. Amazon lists the book as 244 pages. This is not a number divisible by 16 pages, a standard printing signature. Sounds fishy to me.
