OK, lets look at Battle Guardian carefully. It triggers when an enemy attacks your allies or shifts while under your Defender Aura. That's pretty much identical to Combat Challenge, EXCEPT it can happen every turn. CS is replaced by the more effective OAs do to MBAs being boosted. As far as we know now this means the Knight can't halt the movement of an enemy like a PHB fighter can with CS, BUT we don't know what all stances exist, so this may not actually be entirely true. They do have both a more effective alternative to CC and just in general a more effective mechanic than marking.

The slow on a hit stance does exactly this: if a target is slowed while moving, movement immediately ends.

I'm not sure whether that applies to shift.

It does, sort of. Slowed does two things. It changes your speed to 2 and if you have already moved 2 or more squares you stop moving. Unfortunately, if they haven't moved 2 or more squares and the shift isn't based on their speed the slowed condition will have no effect.

Well your ally that was 4 squares away from you will surely appreciate the slowed enemy:)

human racial power called Heroic Effort. It's an encounter power that requires no action.

Trigger: You miss with an attack or fail a saving throw.

Effect: You gain a +4 racial bonus to the attack roll or the saving throw.

Now that puts new fuel into the human speculation. I would absolutely welcome a human racial power. But it also means humans get a rewrite, and possibly a big one.

Not necessarily -- it could be as simple as:

Heroic Effort [Human]
Prerequisite: Human
Benefit: You gain the heroic effort power.

But why a feat instead of a new racial power? Cause it might conflict with old human characters build with the PHB?

Because Essentials isn't a revised addition. Things being added is more plausible than them being removed.

A new feat is an unobtrusive, albeit useful, way to offer more options.
