I'm pretty sure theyre cumulative. so the save penalty starts at -1, then goes to -2, then to -3. NOT -1 + -2 = -3 + -3 = -6.

I agree, -3 total save penalty (at least for Bloddcrier's Hammer). The HP loss looks to be progressive, meaning you lose the listed amount of HP at each level indicated. In the case of the Hammer thats only -16 HP total at 20th level, BIG WHUP! So for a -3 to saves, a -2 to hit, and -16 total HP (and of course the monetary reqs) you get ALL those powers added to the weapon?! Sounds pretty awesome to me. I'm not quite sure WHY those penalties are incurred, and can only assume that it's explained in the book, but it seems that the mechaninc is strictly for balance...

It's definitely on a "Will buy" but I do think I need to review the mechanics more.

If you guys want better rituals, I'd say use DMG II. It's pretty decent IMHO.

I'll be looking it over in the bookstore first before I decide on getting it - mostly due to the mechanics aspect. Consider, for instance, if the weapon is lost beyond any ability to regain. Suppose it is destroyed in some manner.

Now, for most of the mechanics, this is a minor thing. You regain the decreased hp, saves, bab, etc. But some of the weapons decrease the skill points you earn upon gaining a new level. That is a penalty that forever marrs the character even if the weapon is lost and never regained. Also, what if - by chance or poor DM design - a player ends up with two weapons of legacy. So far every single one has penalized bab, saves, and hp. Do these stack? Also, does the penalty to bab apply when using the weapon (in which its increasing +1 enhancements are nothing except damage boosts - as the weapon is never more than a +1 attack due to bab decrease) or do these penalties only apply when using other weapons?

There are just too many potentially problematic aspects to the mechanics - as they seem to be - to justify using them, at least as they current seem to work. Once the book comes out hopefully most of the questions will be answered in a way that shows all these fears were for naught.

Agreed Ny.

I will say I LIKE the fluff/descriptions for the weapons. Shevarash's bow for example, VERY cool way to do both an Underdark campaign AND a Myth Drannor campaign at the same time.

Not sure about the other weapons but the Black Bow has me very intrigued. (Course I liked Sheverash in any case. Always wanted him and Orcus to team up against the drow. Now THAT would be epic, convolted AND fun. :] )

Looks awesome to me.

You people are just power gamers. :P

Umm, No.

I already use the existing mechanics to give my players powerful weapons with in-depth backgrounds. I already have items that scale with level.

I've been designing unique weapons for 10 years now. Wait a sec. I posted a bunch of my items on the old FR list serve, & someone asked to be able to post them on his website.

(checks Google).

Oh my Ao!? He's still there. My stuff is still there. Want to check out the stuff I made a long time ago? Go here and check out the items made by David L. Neff. I thought I'd lost those years ago.

I might go ahead and convert those someday (like after I finish the CCII update).
