More Hirst Molds! [Pictures Again! beware lag monster!]

Thanks for the kind words bloods, I'm glad you like em! I need to get well enough to do some Acrylic shopping at a local art store so I can start into that set. :)

Will,

Thosp pieces look great. Of course, those things are so cool that now I'm going to have to get my own set and begin building my own dungeon.

What casting material did you use to make your blocks, and how well does it work? I'm certain that after I collect the cash to buy the molds, there won't be enough left over to buy that expensive dental casting material that Mr. Hirst is so keen on.

Anyone have any ideas what plaster-type stuff is best?

Oh, and get well soon.

Materials

I used to use Plaster of Paris which I got from the local Hobby Lobby. It was like $8 for 4 pounds and worked well.

Then I discovered www.dentistbid.com. I purchased 50 pounds of dental plaster for around $30 and free UPS shipping. This stuff is great and I'll never go back to POP.

Happy casting. I'm still working on casting my pieces for my modular dungeon.

Hi Brian,

Thanks and sorry for the delayed response, sickness bites... but on the road to recovery! I used something here in Germany called Modellgips which basically translates to Modelling Plaster. What I did is go to the local "big" hardware store and checked out what kind of plasters or plaster of paris they had, and it sounded good. It mixes up pretty good. I doubt if I drop it that it will survive totally intact, but it does the trick and looks good. I'm not really planning on transporting these pieces so they should be fine.

One thing I do to dry the pieces is to put them all in a box and have a fan blow air over them during the night. Then the next day they are ready to be assembled.

Out of interest which moulds did you use to make most of those designs?

All that I have are the Fieldstone Wall Mold #70, Fieldstone Accessories Mold #71 and Flagstone Floor Tile Mold #260
from ( http://www.hirstarts.com/molds/molds.html)

So pretty basic molds, but you can be quite creative with them :). I'm still trying to decide on what my next molds will be... MUAHAHAHAHAHA :D

(Here come the nice men in white to take me back to my padded room)
