I don't think that something like the d20 Modern Talents Trees could lead to be "drown in choices". There can be a midde point between the extremes. I only felt 5th had very few of those "crunch choice moments".
Someone on another forum mentioned that they could be a more 'AD&D' style addition system to 5E, but I wonder if that would only lead to confusion in the playerbase?
We are already playing the 'non basic' version (basic being labelled the free 5E). Do we call just the core books then the 'Core' version and then have stuff added on be the 'advanced' versions? Do we only use Core for things like the Adventurer's League and the like?
I think this is why WotC is cautious to add a lot to the game beyond adventures at this point because it could become a very big juggernaut to drive forward.
