more variant illithids?

In reading through Lords of Madness, I was intrigued by the idea of ceremorphosis experiments on nonhumanoids (the example of a success is the urophion, illithid tadpole implanted in a roper). Are there any other examples from other 1e or 2e? (Or 3e; just because I didn't see anything that "sounded right" on the WotC comprehensive list doesn't mean anything.) And have they been converted? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity!

Yep, Indeed there is.

In the Fiend Folio, you can find the Half-Illithid tamplate with the example using a lizardfolk (Tzandi or something). An updated version of the template also appears in Underdark, with the example being a mindwitness (half-illithid beholder)
