Morrus' Gen Con Reports & Sundry Experiences in America

Morrus said:

Sheesh. And I think I know what this one is - it's me pointing to Teflon Billy and saying "here's Jeff Black." And then him saying "Ranger!" and me getting all flustered. My crowning ENnies achievement!

Thanks for the pics, Russ! Were those Adlon's or someone else's?

I gotta say there's hardly any picture where EITHER of us is looking particularly swell... :)

Those were provided courtesy of Adlon. If anyone else got any pics, it'd be great if they were to add them to this thread.

And yeah, all the pics (of me, at least) are bloody awful! Maybe I should've shaved first...

Hi, I'm Al, the random friend that Russ took to GenCon. I've registered my helpfully suggested user name and here is my first post. Sitting in a hotel internet room, late at night and feeling tired, so I'll keep it brief...

GenCon was amazing! Had a really mind blowing few days, helped a lot by meeting so many friendly people. Just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone and thanks for showing me such a good time...

Anyway, I'll be back later, I think the last few evenings have caught up with me and I really need some sleep!

And one last admin comment before I stop hijacking the thread.

I had a delightful time. I ran seven RPGA games in four different systems (including running a Call of Cthulhu game for Nemmerle, Dr. Doom, Urbanmech, Dinkeldog, Halma and Barcode), I saw a ton of old friends, I made a lot of new friends, and I actually managed to win the RPGA Pinnacle award for best RPGA DM for the second year in a row! Go figure. Trying to get the award plaque - which includes a beautiful and extremely sharp dagger - through airport security was certainly interesting.

The real highlight, of course, were the people - Eric & Russ, dozens of cool ENboarders and publishers, and more damn cool gamers than you can shake a pointy dice bag at. Thanks, everyone!

For those who have the time and would like to meet MoRuss (and I-Al, of course) in the flesh, let's get together for lunch at 11:45am on Tuesday at-

Zoom Kitchen
Fresh-made salads, soups and sandwiches in a cafeteria setting.
247 S State St
312.377.9666

That's just north of Jackson, on State St, on the east side of the street. We lunched there with Kevin "Piratecat" Kulp when he visited the Windy City and it turned out to be a fine place. So far we have omokage, Painfully, Baron Von Starblade and Dinkledog planning to attend, so just drop me an Email later today or tonight so we can hold the requisite number of chairs for our group. :)

Sigh... got too much catching up to do after San Diego ComiCon and GenCon, or I might take a drive into the city and lunch with you guys. Oh well. Feel free to drop by the office if you're in the Mundelein area, though.

:)

I must share my one, wonderful Morrus Moment:

My girlfriend and I were sitting at the counter of this little diner called Maxie's Doghouse when we see Adlon (who I had previously met) and Morrus (who I had only seen from the floor of the ENnies) walk in from the direction of the hotel. Adlon comes over and begins chatting and Morrus sits, looking very tired and mostly hung over. I hsake his hand, introduce myself, and proceed to tell him that the diner's pretty good, but the coffee's excellent.

He forces a hung-over smile and says "Coffee's always excellent, especially when you're starting your breakfast at Quarter-past ten in the mornin."

I blinked and said "Russ, it's 11:15."

He looked up at the clock, down at his watch, and with the confusion of someone that's been in three time zones in as many days, lets out the most heartbreaking sigh as he gets his coffee.

It was great to meet you, Russ. :)

Here's some pics taken of Russ and Al while in Chicago on Monday. I'll leave it to them to fill in more commentary...

(Warning - Big pictures, very large, not to be clicked lightly... ;) )

Here they are in front of the Tribune Tower. That's Russ (MoRuss) on the left (in case you've missed some of the other pics) and new board member (Inconsequenti-) Al who is traveling with MoRuss and plays in his home game.
