Morrus' Gen Con Reports & Sundry Experiences in America

Today was a lot of fun! Piratecat and KidCthulhu took Al and myself on a tour of Boston (in the sweltering heat...!) It's a lovely little city with some very beautiful areas.

This evening, we were invited to play in Piratecat's D&D game (as made famous by his Story Hour). The game lasted about 4 hours and was a real treat. Unfortunately, my Dwarven Defender spent the first half of the only combat fleeing in fear, before charging in from a long distance (he had a fly spell cast on him). I was just getting a long run-up, honest! This was an example of a really good gaming group - everyone was focused, knew what they were doing, and the game ran smoothly.

I'll be heading back to New York tomorrow for a second attempt at meeting Nemmerle, before flying back to England. My flight leaves at midnight tomorrow (Friday), so I doubt I'll get chance to post again before I get home.

He's comes all the way from England just to have his PC run screamingly in fear. And since he was flying, there was a doppler effect!
AIIIIIEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
We're all about special effects here, after all.

That being said, it was a great game and a fun visit. I'm now off to bring 'em back to New York.

Well, Morrus is supposed to meet me after work in front of my office building - and call me if there is any trouble. . .

Despite the fact that I gave him three phone numbers to reach me at and even drew him a map - I do not have high hopes for this meeting ;)

I dropped by the Fiery Dragon booth to say hi, and was delighted to meet Claudio Pozas! For those who have never met him, Claudio is the nicest, friendliest person in the entire world. I kept my promise to buy on of his art pieces, and came home with an original Pozas Flumph, which will soon become the new EN World mascot!

Russ here is the nicest person in all of GenCon, alongside Eric himself. To endure as much jet lag as he did and still smile at my terrible "could he BE more british" remarks, it can only be a sign of greatness!

I was very very glad of meeting you, Russ! If only I could have seen the chicken impression... :D

Well, I'm back home. As much as I've enjoyed the last couple of weeks, I must say that it's good to be back.

Al and I managed to hook up with Nemm (we were sitting on a wall outside his workplace just hoping we were at the right spot). We went to a small bar nearby and had a few drinks, and them once, his not-girlfriend turned up we headed somewhere else for a couple of games of pool. It's a shame we were pressed for time, but we had to leave for our flight home after a few hours.

We struck lucky at the check-in desk on the way home - we were bumped up to business class on the flight (which is a much nicer way to travel).

It's been a very full, very fun and very tiring couple of weeks. I imagaine I'm going to be doing a lot of sleeping over the next couple of days before attacking my email mountain. I've briefly updated the news page, and I'll be returning to "regular duty" on Monday.

To everyone who I met, either at Gen Con, in Chicago or elsewhere - it was great to see you. Special thanks go to Mark, who gave up two days to show us around Chicago and who set up the ENBoards meeting there, and to Piratecat who really went beyond the call of duty to be hospitable (can you believe that guy drove 3 hours either way to pick us up and to drop us off!).

Anyway - until next year! Over the next day or so I'll be putting together a nicely formatted web page with these reports, pictures etc. as a permanent memory of the whole thing.

Remember to check out the ENnies MP3, by the way. It's only the first 26 minutes of the show, but it's fun to listen to! You can find it at the bottom of this page: http://www.mortality.net/ennies.php

Not to make life worse for you Russ, but would you be willing to write something of a synopsis of your GenCon experience for Asgard. Of course, we'd be focusing on the con and the ENnies, since the boardmembers who know and love you have already been reading this thread and know what personal stuff you've been up to. But hey, since a few of us at GenCon got the chance to meet you, I think it's only fair that the readers of Asgard get a chance to hear what it would've been like to encounter Morrus.

Since Nemm is a little slow on the draw, I'll add the obligatory sappy lyrics...

Welcome Back

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)
Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've got him on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.
