Morrus stay out. Okay, fine, you can come in. Everyone else come in too.

Good idea RW.

I think you're right that the best approach is decide on present, then collect money for present rather than the other way around. Either way, I'd be happy to chip in from Down Under. Paypal works for me but I've noticed on other threads that some people are toxic against it. Are there better alternatives?

Best Regards

I will do money...gift...whatever

Note - I would want those that can't are able to provide their wishes, we are a community as part of the gift.

Well we have about a dozen people interested in chipping in, and I figure each person is probably willing to put up something in the 5 to 20 dollar range. So I'll peg us at a $100 to $250 range.

I realized over the weekend that I'm not sure Russ plans to go to Gen Con 2011, and so I'd hate for a gift to go to waste.

Obviously the bride is a massive Star Wars geek if she arranged for Storm Troopers to show up at her wedding (see the pics on the other thread), so maybe we could get something SW-related. The challenge is guessing something she doesn't already have.

I've been pointed to their wedding registry, though there's not much left unpurchased. I'm assuming folks at a gaming website won't get enthusiastic about buying Russ a bread pan or toaster-sandwich cage, but among geeky things, the list includes a $75 Superman old-style comic book poster, a $50 1:18 scale model of the Bluesmobile from Blues Brothers, and a $90 1:18 scale model of the Delorean from Back to the Future.

Any other ideas? A whole set of the Essentials (assuming he isn't already getting that)? Some fancy board game like Dominion or Shadows Over Camelot? Swords? Light sabers?

Something from the registry would probably be a good idea. Anything else runs the risk of getting something they already have. Just because we're gamers doesn't mean the gift has to be gaming or geek related. Just my $.02.

John Kovalic recently put up a post on his blog about custom art of his that could be purchased.

I'd also second the idea of paying for their GenCon badges/hotel/airfare, but obviously yes, you'd need to see if Russ was actually planning on going. :)

Getting Klaus to do custom artwork (perhaps of the two of them as Jedi? One Jedi, one Sith, fighting with lightsabres?) woudl also be completely awesome and unique.

I'm more than happy to chip in £10 (which is anywhere between $10 and $20, depending on international rates) for this, and I'd also be OK with trusting RangerWickett to hold the money until we have a confirmation of what's going on with it.

This is a wonderful idea and I hope we can make it work.

On the art front, I'm assuming y'all didn't see the wedding invitation art Claudio did.

I'm discussing with one of Russ's face-to-face friends about gift ideas; he's actually seen the man's house, so can give us a clue on what not to get.
