Mortality Radio Show - Do you listen? Why or Why not?

Hey, checking out the last show right now.

Just to let you know, us Linux users can access the streaming show just as well. Same as using winamp, except you use the Winamp clone Xmms instead.

Agree on the dead airtime, and the introduction sound effects and song were a little too long. It was nearly five minutes!

Other than that, I like the show. Might try to catch it live next time.

I try to make it, but it's 2am on a Saturday morning for me, which often makes it difficult. I tend to be either asleep or drunk at that time of the week. :)

You made it to the last show that was on. Besides we still want you to be one of the guests of the show. :)

Thanks for the comments, guys. I am passing them on to Adlon as well. And how many people would show up if we had Morrus as a special guest?

I'm rarely available Friday nights so I doubt I would ever catch the show live. I just downloaded the last show and I have to say my only problem with it is that it is too slow. I'm not just talking about the dead air. I'm talking about the delivery. If you don't have two hours worth of material, don't broadcast for two hours. Personally, I prefer written interviews to live ones because you can read them at your own pace or skip an answer to a question that doesn't interest you.

Something else you might consider is taping the news segments (there were some announcements at the beginning) ahead of time so that if there's a glitch (the planned interview has to take care of the dog suddenly) you can play the tape (wav file) and handle the glitch. Also, pretaped segments would eliminate some of the dead air time.

A good source of pretaped segments could be Con reports or something. Another one would be your last couple news items on the website. Read them aloud clearly before going on the air and then sprinkle them through out the broadcast.

tburdett: I'm a frequent listener and all you have to use is WINAMP. Easy and affordable. ;)

I have to say that most shows are quite good and at their worst tolerable (due to bad phones or connection problems). Adlon and the gang do a good job and the irc chats are always...mmm...provacative. :D

We have a security policy that does not allow the installation of unauthorized software.

Winamp would fall into that category. No show for me.

I listened to the first few but the lack of organization, dead air, and difficult-to-hear callers were annoying enough that I haven't bothered to try again. I know all of this has been said but I figured it would be worthwhile adding another voice with the same issues.

I certainly admire what you're doing, though, and will continute to check in now and then until it becomes a little more... solid? professional? whatever, at which point I'll start listening regularly.

Please don't take offense: it's a really cool idea and some parts are really great. I guess I just have so many things to watch or listen to that this isn't on the top of my list (with the issues I mentioned).

I think Sigil was being nicer but this is your problem. I realize its a volunteer comunity type-thing but to compete for people's time you should try to turn out a tighter, more focused and shorter program.

From the outside it looks like increasing the amount of organization a bit would reap exponential gains.

I agree with most of what's been said here.
On the west coast, but the timing is not so much that I can't make it as much as I have dinner then forget about it until its over. So I've only caught 2 or 3 live.

I particularly don't like how almost every section of the show is interrupted two or three times, usually by callers. If some more effort could be made to request that calls not interrupt stuff, it would be better, IMO. I do other stuff too during that 2.5 hours, and lots of jumping around makes it hard to follow.

I have listened to every show, and from what I can tell, if Adlon wants to be active on the chat, it is almost necessary for both avoiding dead air and maintaining momentum that a co-host, guest, or whatever be on hand to keep talking into the mic.

Keep up the good work. In general, I think it is improving.

The time is usually ok with me as it is actually a Saturday morning for me. The only problem I have is one Saturday out of three, my wife needs the cable modem for her work, so I can't access it at all.
I first downloaded a show after the THG guys were on and now make an effort to show up for any show I can. It is great to listen to people talk about the things you like and chat over irc with others of likemind.

Themed shows would be great or perhaps a segment of the show dedicated to one section of the SRD or setting or publisher just to give variety to the show.

Could people give us some ideas about what kind of themes you would like the show to take. I was thinking about comboing themes and segements. For example, having a show dedicated to high level gaming and having a segment on the setting Oathbound. What others can people think of? We are really trying here at Mortality to make a radio show that people both enjoy listening to and feel that they get something from it. As much as we love to hear the sound of our own voice, without you the public, we wouldn't have a show.

Hello all!

I am a staff member over at Mortality.net and was wondering how many people on here listen to the show? Also, if you listen, what do you like/dislike about it? Do you download the show after the broadcast? And also for those that don't listen, why is that? Wrong time?

Hi!

I usually download the show on the weekend and listen to it. I enjoy it greatly, since it is quite a rarity to find a show that covers this subject material.

The only two problems I have with the show are:

1) It is too long for me - a show that is one hour to 90 minutes would be easier to listen to for me, as I rarely get to listen to it in more than one sitting.

2) Friday night is for me a really bad time for the show - Friday nights are usually when my wife and I do our "stepping out."

I love the topics, the interviews, and the bumper music when you guys get started for the show! :) But not keeping it to a format time makes it harder for me to work into the schedule.

I am very glad you are on the air, and I hope this show remains worthwhile for Adlon and the rest fo the crew, because I certainly enjoy it!
