Most Amusing Rule Misinterpretation?

I was DMing keep on the border lands in OD&D, and one of the first real encounters the PCs had was the Owlbear. A tough fight, but they won, and I went to look up it's treasure type.

I mistook a "C" for a "G".

40,000 GP worth of treasure and a group of 4-5th level PCs, and we had to look for a new module. Untill the end of the evening when some one, (polilely waiting till after game), did some post game checking.

2 days ago, during a gaming session, some of the players were talking about retiring their characters. Most characters are between level 7 and 9, and one player had already created another character. (A stone giant). He showed it the DM, who said: "isn't that one a bit overpowered for a level 8 character?". In the end the players decided to continue with the characters they were currently playing.

After the gaming session, The DM and I looked again on his Stone Giant character. The player said: it's only ECL +4, level adjustment +4 in the MM. so I have addes 4 barbarian levels to make him level 8. The DM agreed, I did not.

14d8 Hit Dice + 4d12 from class levels, a base attack bonus of +10, is just a bit overpowered for a level 8 character. I pointed both the player and the DM to the fact that ECL = hit dice + class levels + level adjustment.

Both the player and the DM were a bit ashamed ;)
