We here at Expeditious Retreat Press (that's just me and the wife, but oh it sounds so cool
) were at the local 1/2 price books looking for referance material for A Magical Classical Society: Imperium when we stumbled upon the most awesomest map i've ever seen.
Its from the Ordance Survey in England and it's a map of roman britian at 1inch=ten miles scale. It shows every single roman site they've ever found (well up to 1979, but hey..).
This include information on (reading from the map key)
Coloniae
Tribal Cities
Spas
Burgi
Towns
Major and Minor Settlements
Temples & Shrines
Barrows & Mausolea
Villas
Other Substantial Buildings
Legionary Fortresses
Vexillation Fortresses
Forts
Fortlets
Signal Stations
Watch Towers
Temporary Camps
Practice Works
Continuous Frontier Works
Potteries
Pottery Kilns
Tile Kilns
Mines & Quarries
Salt Working Mines
Aqueducts
Artificial water courses of Roman age
Lighthouses
Roads, source certain
Roads, source uncertain
Milestones
Prehistoric trackways in contemporary use
Other finds of Roman Material
Roman names of Civitates & Tribes
Roman names of Places
Roman names of Natural features
Roman names of doubtful attribution
and
the modern names.
Man, I am utterly stoked at finding this map. I had no idea such a thing existed and now i'm trying to find other maps like this one. It's going to make writing MCS:I easier, and keep the historical information that much more accurate.
