Most common RPGs of today?

In the city I live in the games being ran at all the games stores are 80% Dnd with a couple tables playing "Shadowdark", a couple tables playing "Draw Steel", a table that plays "Mothership", and a table that plays "Traveller".

Honestly I have no niche in mind. I am looking for systems to potentially make character sheets for. Many are so simple it's not really needed, but I still find it fun.
If your goal is character creation with no specific campaign to join or game to play, GURPS and Hero System are still outright winners. D&D 3rd edition not bad either, if you make something above 1st level.

I believe the top ones that aren't 5e D&D are, by volume of players, in no particular order:
  • Pathfinder (both editions)
  • Call of Cthulhu (all editions)
  • D&D (All editions other than 5e + Retroclones)
  • World of Darkness (all versions)
Pretty much anything else is just a rounding error relative to 5e.

it’s the same $30 per digital book as you play for D&D and others… except that D&D has 3 of them
I can get a slightly better deal for PDFs than $30 each most of the time, even corebooks. Also they're charging more than that for individual PDFs. $30 is the bundle price.

I know that for me at least (coming from someone that loves other board games and video games) I'm getting way way more than $60 worth of value from TTRPG books.

Honestly with the countless hours of play time these games give it dwarfs a $40 board game or $60 video game
