Most superfluous rule?

I disagree. I think that the rules for taking out and using items need to be explicit and specific. I've seen far to many arguments about this sort of thing.
I've seen similar arguments about picking up objects off the ground. The "shouldn't I just be able to do that as I walk by?" type of arguments.

Agreed. Rules are best when they negate arguments. These do that.

The note under Mage Slayer (CWa) that says that you have to declare that an opponent has this feat.

I can see some balance issues with the feat, but declaring it? What other abilities do you have to declare to your players when they get in a fight with an opponent?
Ummm...
Mage Slayer is in Complete Arcane not Complete Warrior. Also, all it says is that a mage being threatened by someone with Mage Slayer is aware that they can't cast defensively- not that you have to say when they spot the guy "oh, he has Mage Slayer".

Elves don't have to sleep 8 hours...just meditate for 4 (or was it 2?). But they still have to sit around for 8 hours to regain spells and heal.

That comes into play all the time........

The rule that you can draw a weapon during a move...as long as your BAB is +1. So everyone can do it....except 1st level non-melee characters. Whew, glad they caught that one! That would have been seriously unbalanced!

Darn...thats even more useless than elves sleeping.

Oooh, I just thought of one: Fire shield's random color. 50% it's purple or red or something like that.

This is probably the best example. Has this ever, EVER made a difference in the game? Who cares what color a fire shield is in a game that is 97.5% imagination (2.5% Polysorbate 60)!

However, since this thread is rapidly degenerating into a rules that are just annoying, I feel compelled to comment:

+1 BAB required to take the weapon Finesse Feat. For a feat designed for rogues, it really sucks that a rogue can't take it at first level.

Wasn't it designed for Belkar? ;)

It has in my campaign. An NPC had a blue fire shield, so the party didn't know if it was warm or chill.
