Mounted Combat - Useful?

Had to revisit this topic. My trusty mount which carried my char from an olden age into a post-modern (modern being Dark Ages) day, passed away today. I am well and truly bummed. Sure, he was a light warhorse, but he was Avarshan, Aneirin's light warhorse. I hope the bards of this land have taken note.

It's hard to lose a trusted mount

For DMs whose players don't value Mounted Combat: Attack them with a horde of knights in shining armor in the open. Preferably at rather low levels. They'll learn.
