Mounted Robbery?

Can a mounted character snatch items while moving? How about during a charge? I want to have a bandit that rips stuff off at a full gallop...

I see no reason why not. If it is an unattended item, a simple dex check should take care of it, or just have him succeed automatically. For held items, isn't there some sort of rule? I would treat it like a disarm attempt, most likely.
 

I do not see why not BUT there would be a number of checks and skills to think about. Things like Riding / Trick Riding (Acrobatic on Mount), Surprise (I would use this to resolve if the item being grabbed come loose) Strength Check for any items that do not come loose.
 

If you were using Pathfinder, I'd say Steal combat maneuver is ideal for this. Disarm would mean the item is in their hand, and thus more difficult to remove than using Steal. I'd also imagine an animal handling and/or ride check to be involved as well.
 

Well, using 3.X, I would say a disarm check to snatch the item, a pickpocket check to do it fast enough a victim does not immediately notice, and ride check if either of those fails to avoid falling off your horse. I think the manoeuvre would provoke an attack of opportunity unless the pickpocket check passed. What kind of modifiers would apply? How high should the base DC be?
 

MODs can go high, as you will use pick pocking. some I would be looking at are size, weight and location. Example would be a medallion, it would be a small object, weight would not be a factor but being around the neck would be. Small object = +5DC, Location = +5DC, so to grab from horseback at run, +10 DC to roll. If it was a ring, location would be very very hard (would be easier to cut off the hand and grab that as it flies through the air).
 

I thought I saw rules somewhere for mounted grabs, but I cannot find it. Are there any classes with an ability that would simulate this?
 



So, this is what I have so far.

Mounted Raider: While mounted and charging you can use the pickpocket skill to snatch an object held or worn by your target. If you make a successful Ride check you avoid an attack of opportunity by the target.

Ride Bonus: You receive a +2 bonus on all Ride checks. This increases with each level gained.

Somehow, I need something more. Hmm...
