[Mouse Guard] Luke gave us the first copy as a wedding gift!

Why is posting to multiple forums a bad thing?

Eyebeams, your dedication to "outing" this guy is embarrassing. What the hell do you expect to accomplish?

Congrats on being a Super Internet Detective. Now please stop, because nobody cares.

Um, dudes, you two are the ones unwilling to stop - after a moderator had already asked for people to drop this line.

So, please drop it, and move on. Thank you.

A couple of things:

First of all, congratulations to the original poster on getting married! I hope that some of the negatives of this thread haven't soured you on coming here and announcing it. Best blessings for many and many a year to come!

On the game: it sounds like the game is a slimmed down version of the Burning Wheel rules, so I'm wondering if the combat system has been simplified. My girlfriend has expressed interest in trying RPGs, and I've always thought that BW would be a fun place to start because of the lifepaths, but the combat system would be a no-go from the start with her. If you have a moment, I'd love to hear about that.

Finally: I want to thank the very posters who kept this thread on the first page by complaining about it: without you I might never have seen it! Of course if you were an extremely suspicious person you might think that the very people who are complaining about the thread the most are actually involved with it. That's the part of the essence of Guerrilla Marketing, after all. ;)

Apparently, some of our posters fail to comprehend the phrase "drop it". So, it will be dropped for them.

Let me be clear - sly digs after a mod has asked people to stop discussing things are extremely poor form. If you think you can get off one last poke where they can't poke back, you are sadly mistaken.

So, that's one threadban on this. Next person gets a vacation from the site. Do not test this further, people.

Combat is essentially a game of rock/paper/scissor in that you have 4 actions (attack, defend, feint, and maneuver) to choose from whose effectiveness depends on what your opponent chose. Much, much more simple than the Fight and Duel of Wits mechanics in Burning Wheel. And there is now 1 system that handles all types of conflicts. Most of the rules for combat are included on the back of the character sheet.

I love the maneuver action. It lets you spend successes for effects like disarms. And if you have many successes, you can buy multiple effects. Simple but lets you be creative.

Thanks for posting this and reminding me about this game. I'd heard about it but forgot it was coming out.

As someone who grew up reading Redwall novels, I recently picked up Mouse Guard and loved it. I'm also a big fan of Burning Wheel and Burning Empires and pretty much anything Luke has done (excepting Bella Sera).

Any word on when this is actually coming out?

I heard rumors end of December or early January. But I'm not sure. I also don't know where they will be selling it :( I hope soon.

I like the comic but Burning Wheel seems like a poor choice as the basis of the rules engine.
Which parts of Burning Wheel do you feel would be a poor choice? I can look up if those parts have changed in a way that would make them better choices.

I would have thought the same thing, but based on jenskot's posts above, Mouse Guard doesn't sound very much like Burning Wheel with regard to combat/conflict resolution. Makes me think that the BW association may just be a branding thing.

Quick update. Still no word on when this comes out but apparently pre-orders for the book are up with some sort of immediate pdf download and comic bundle (not sure if the comic is pdf or an additional printed book)]IPR :: Preorders :: Mouse Guard Roleplaying Game [Print+PDF] [Preorder]. Some people on RPG.net mention the pdf comes with character sheets and sample characters. I don't have it so I can't confirm.

Someone found the full wrap around cover: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mgrpg.PNG you can check out the mouse I mentioned in the full plate!

I would definitely still say this is Burning Wheel but boiled down to the very basics and pumped full of Mouse Guard flavor. But still Burning Wheel but very streamlined. It depends on what CaptainChaos doesn't like about BW. For example, if you don't like the D6 die pool, beliefs, instincts, traits... those are all still there. So I would definitely say it is more than branding. But the game is much more accessible. Hope that helps!
