Mouth Darts

Ok, I have a question or three regarding these things.

Arms and Equipment has them listed at tiny size.. which, according to the monster manual, would be about the size of a cat or something like it. Shouldn't mouth darts be fine if anything? Less than an inch long, 1/10th of a pound.

Weapon sizes are NOT the same as creature sizes.

Shortswords are (Small) weapons.

Halflings are (Small) creatures.

Shortswords, however, are NOT as big as halflings. Not even close.

I understand that..

I know that they arent the same as creatures; but my point is that by making a mouth dart "Tiny".. you are indicating it is the same size as a "longsword" made for a tiny creature.
I just dont think the designers thought about the size here, they said "its small enough" when its really not.

And how big, in inches, would a grig's short sword be?

how long, in inches, would a human's mouth dart be?

They are about the same size.

I understand your concerns. A lot of people are worried when they see a mouth dart for the first time that they won't be able to handle it. But don't worry -- your mouth is capable of stretching, and with practice, you should easily be able to handle one, two, or even three mouth darts at once!

Just remember, spit don't swallow. :)

On the other hand, a dagger is a tiny weapon, and that's what, a foot long overall?

I don't have the A&EG, so I'm not sure what these 'mouth darts' are supposed to be, but if they're supposed to be like the ninja's legendary poisoned needles (:):):)imi-bari, I think) then Tiny would seem to me to be too big as well.

Checking Sword & Fist, they're listed there - and are Tiny as well. I think they're just renamed shuriken, in fact. A bit of research suggests that the actual needles are about 2 inches long, so Tiny seems a bit large.

Personally, I'd make them diminutive and say they did no damage at all, only delivered poison.

mouth darts require a blowgun. which vary in size in RL. i think they just picked an arbitrary size to make it uniform.

what size are sling bullets or stones? again same rule.

or arrows?

or quarrels?

etc... for all ammo.

they needed to pick some size so the mechanic would work.

with 3.11ed for workgroups things will change.;)
