Move + MEA: Allowed?

From the definition of MEA in the glossary of the PHB:
move-equivalent action: An action that takes the place of moving at normal speed. A character can take a one-equivalent action instead of moving at normal speed in a standard action or as a partial action, or two move-equivalent actions instead of a double move.
This covers:
  • Control two flaming spheres (two MEA instead of double move)
  • Draw a potion (MEA) and drink it (standard action)
  • Load a crossbow (MEA) and fire it (standard action)
What about:
  • Move (move action) and load a crossbow (MEA)
A player thinks that a double move is not a normal move because you are hustling. I contend that in combat you are always hustling when you move whether it is a single or double move. This is further supported by the glossary definition: "...takes the place of moving at normal speed..." and "...two move-equivalent actions instead of a double move..." and by deduction we see a double move is two normal moves.

Thanks.

All of those listed are correct.
Round in combat generaly for easier understending can and should be played as standart action + MEA or Full round action + 5' step.
+ Partial action if you have haste.

BTW, I think that by the letter of the wording, if you cannot move your normal speed (say because you are wading through thick brambles that limit movement to one-half speed), you shouldn't be able to do a MEA. MEAs can be used in place of moving at normal speed. :D I would never play it like that, though.

What about "Open a door"? Does this mean that it takes you the same amount of time to open a door as it does to move 30-feet? Damn heavy doors I guess. :D

Some MEAs can be performed during a move as well, such as drawing a weapon (bab +1 or higher of course). I see opening a door as being done as part of your move. It's odd that you would completely lose an action just for opening a door.

We've always played opening a door as a MEA, though you can try a STR roll for free if you are moving through the door. It gives us a chance to use that door DC chart on the DMs screen :)

I honestly believe that moving through a door would only burn a standard action, and would still give you the rest of your move. Or, can you only take a standard action before or after you have completed your move? I would not believe that you would still be able to attack, or perform another standard acitoin, after moving through a door.

So, am I correct, or are there flaws in my reasoning?

Oh, I was just sayin' "Hi".

Well, actually, there is a flaw in your reasoning. Opening a door does not burn a standard action. It burns a move-equivalent action.

Also, to answer your question, you can take a standard action either before or after your move. This is stated on page 121 of the PH, left column, last paragraph.

Thanks!

But, maybe I am just a little addle brained today, that still does not answer the question of what you can do when opening a door is involved.

I would try to give an example for anyone to examine, but my mind is kinda in a fog today.

Can anyone else think of an example that might help me with this?
