Movies that make you want to game...

This was actually filmed about an hour and a half away from my hometown. My mom and a few of her riding friends are extras in the mass battle scenes with horses. Good movie.

Where in B.C. are you from? It was filmed in Campbell River for the most part. I know a couple of people that are extras in it, too. Same thing for that Dungeonseige movie.

Lol, dude it has been a year or two but remember I used to live down the road from you Gamed a few times with you and Blargh. Originally from Courtenay. My folks and I actually hopped in my dad's boat and motored up to one of the filming sites where they had one of the ships moored.

While I am not from Campbell River, the year they shot the 13th Warrior, my family and I went on a cross country vacation from Home (near Kingston, Ontario) out West. My Moms cousin and her husband took us walking through the park where the bridge scene was set up, and it pretty cool to see a piece of the set.

As this is in general, not D&D specific, I'll just say--just about any film I like has some sort of roleplaying potential. Action movies specifically make me want to game. Things like Bourne Identity, Equilibrium, Highlander, etc, etc, all make me want to play or run a game based on that movie. Even slasher movies...or should I say especially slasher movies.

I'd even like to run a game based in the world of Coraline. Basically, if I like it, I'd probably like to try using it in a game sense.

no movie before or since has gotten me as excited to rpg it as red dawn did back in the day. will be interesting to see how the new one turns out.

Blackhawk Down, Gladiator, various Alien(s) movies, Last Man Standing.

For anime, Record of Lodoss War, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Beserk. The cool thing about the last three is that you can make just about any character from them in Exalted.

This could be a fun activity to take a break from your normal game, as a one shot.

Set aside at least 6 hours with your group for game night.

Watch movie, 1.5-2 hours.
Discuss adapting movie to game system of choice, .5-1 hours.
Play game, 3-4 hours.

Might work best if the DM watches the movie ahead of time and makes some preparations. Also seems like it would work best in some funky indie system, or at most Savage Worlds.

Loving this thread. Just put more updates on my NetFlix queue in one night than I have in a long time.

Regarding the above, one of my gaming groups has done something along these lines quite a bit. We played d20 modern with a post apocalyptic setting, and we'd watch a different post apoc flick each time - one of the Mad Maxes, etc. And then dive right into gaming. It was always pretty hip to see the players immediately incorporating as much as possible from the movies, within the context of the campaign.

I highly recommend this approach!
