Movies that make you want to game...

Several of the above lists have some of my favs:
"Dragonslayer, Star Wars, Willow, LotR, etc."

A few missing from the list that fire me up to play are:

"Band of Brothers" - I love the central feel of party and how adding new characters due to other character death or injury doesn't have to change the feel of the whole. (As someone who was in the military, the attitude of "it sucks that 'Joe' got killed, but the mission goes on." is something more players should embrace, - IMHO)

James Bond films - action, adventure ...ahem... rewards.

Any of the Musketeer movies - "The Three Musketeers, Man in the Iron Mask", etc.

"The Black Cauldron" - Little known Disney Movie - great story.

"The Dark Crystal" - Campy, yes, full of ideas - you bet.

"The Neverending Story" - the first one, see above.

Also, anything on the History channel that doesn't have to do with truckers, loggers or the modern era.

Rather than simply agreeing with many of the films already metioned here, I'll add one to the list:

Reign of Fire. After seeing that movie with one of earstwhile gaming buddies, I really wanted to play a modern, post-dragon-apocalypse game. Plus, it made me like Matthew McConaughey.

Of course, there are others; there are always others are there not? But, that is the one that really comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned. Many others have figured into my gaming already.

By the way, what new Red Dawn movie?

13th Warrior maybe my all time favorite "movie that could have been a gaming session."

Brotherhood of the Wolf-"The Pope's killer whore"

LoTR trilogy

Conan

Ladyhawke

Yeah just moved to Calgary for a few years, started up a 4e game of War of the Burning Sky with some friends and really enjoying getting back into DMing after a year or so break from gaming. Been good, how's things in Vic?

Cheers,
E

Vic is as awesome as always. And 4e WotBS sounds pretty damned awesome. We're switching the game over to Planescape tomorrow, and it's gonna rawk.

Onto the subject at hand... Apparently, I need to see Red Dawn. And Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Inglorious Basterds really made me want to play a WW2 game.

I completely agree. That movie got me so pumped to play a WW2 pulp action game that I borrowed my friend's copy of Gearkrieg. The jury's still out on whether or not I'll actually run a game in that system.

As for movies, I'll second the vote for Pirates of the Caribbean. The first one especially is full of the same sort of shenanigans that PCs get up to all the time...

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is something I watch to prepare for a campaign. I feel more pumped for world building after watching that than I do for actual gaming.

Firefly / Serenity makes me really excited to play a sci-fi rpg like Traveler. And of course, watching any of the Star Wars films makes me reach for Saga edition.

The Mummy / The Mummy Returns / Scorpion King 1 & 2 work really well for pulp adventure inspiration, I find. Lots of great gaming mojo from those films.

Dawn of the Dead (the new one) and Zombieland give me plenty of inspiration for running some kind of zombie apocalypse game.

One last film I really enjoyed for D&D inspiration was The Count of Monte Cristo (the newish one). The swordfight it ends with really gets me pumped up.
