Movies that should have sucked, but didn't

One that I had passed many times in the video store and didn't even think to see in the theatre:

The Shawshank Redemption: I loved this movie. I bought it after watching it.

E.T.: I was dragged to the theatre as a youth. I really enjoyed the movie once there.

The 13th Warrior: I didn't think it was anything special. I watched it and loved it. The coolest Vikings I have ever seen portrayed in a film.

Dare I say it...

Bring It On
Went to see this with my fiance at the bargin theater, because she had heard good things about it from some friends. I thought it was going to be awful, but ended up really enjoying it. No too deep on plot, but it was full of sharp, witty dialogue and it was certainly full of energy. Plus, it had Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku.
:D
That movie was really fun. When I saw it it really bothered me
that I couldn't pinpoint why I liked it.

I was out visiting my parents in California, plopped on their couch, and what comes on HBO...? Undercover Brother. Man, I can't believe I like it that much. What a stupid, funny movie. That Doogie Howser kid is my new hero.

The Princess Bride - I saw it in theaters. I got dragged along to see what I thought was going to be some girly romance movie.

What did I know? Never saw previews for it and I remember coming away from that movie with a great big smile.

28 Days - I saw plenty of rviews that were down on this movie and I wasn't expecting much, but it was fun. So was Reign of Fire. Nothing great, but definitely fun.

Undercover Brother is, hands down, one of my all-time favorite comedies. Way funnier than even Austin Powers, the other funny spy-guy (I did enjoy all 3 Austin movies, but there was far too much stooping to gross-out comedy). Plus it's always nice to see an
Internet cartoon make it big.

Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame - now my favorite Disney film

The Marx Brothers (anything) - I don't know why I expected 3 Stooges slapstick, but was very surprised and now searching for all the films on DVD

SLC Punk / Bring it On / Empire Records - "Teen" movies that turned out to actually be pretty cool even for someone who isn't a teen

The Lion King 2 - I liked it better than the original

The Scorpion King - For a long time I just couldn't get past wrestlers as actors but he's actually really good.

Rat Race , Austin Powers - silly comedy's that actually made me laugh out loud

The Avenging Disco Godfather - Oh no. Wait. That one really did suck. My bad.

;)

Proof of Life. When I heard Meg Ryan was starring in it, I expected a sappy love-story driven drama. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Same thing with Flesh & Bone.
