If they can get both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch into Avengers (despite also being part of the X-Men movies), they should be able to get Silver Surfer into the Defenders.

oh I was wrong..the Silver Surfer film rights are actually controlled by 20th Century Fox.
anyway here's a break down

  • Sony- Spider-Man and Ghost Rider (and all related villains, characters, etc.)
  • Fox- X-Men, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four (and all related villains, characters, etc.)
  • Marvel Studios/Disney- All the characters that aren't affiliated with Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, X-Men, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four.

Now of course, there are some little exceptions. For example, the characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were so closely related to both the Avengers (they were both members for a very long time) and to the X-Men (they're Magneto's children), they can be used by both Fox and Marvel/Disney. There are rules to things they can/cannot say, however. In an Avengers movie, they aren't allowed to discuss "mutants" or Magneto or the X-Men. In an X-Men movie, they aren't allowed to discuss the Avengers or Hulk or Iron Man.

It seems Ghost Rider reverted back to Marvel in May 2013.

So, it now looks like this:

Well, I think Marvel's talked about two movies a year. Including this year, that's 30 movies. It wouldn't surprise me if they eventually moved to 3 a year (April, June/July, & November), but for the next few years it's two per.

2013 - Iron Man 3 & Thor 2
2014 - Captain America 2 & Guardians of the Galaxy
2015 - Avengers 2 & Ant-Man
2016 - Captain 3 & Dr Strange(?)
2017 - Thor 3 & Guardians 2
2018 - Avengers 3 - Infinity Gauntlet/Thanos & ? either lead-in to Avengers or kick off something new.

That's 10 right there.

Possible Movies/Characters
  • Black Widow (is under some kind of development apparently)
  • Secret Avengers: Black Widow, Falcon, Ant-Man, Dr Strange, Black Panther, Hawkeye
  • Black Panther
  • Captain Marvel (I could see this springing out of Guardians 2 and leading into Avengers 3)
  • Nova (spinning off of Guardians)
  • Hulk (always the bridesmaid in recent discussions; never the bride)

"they are looking at making solo films based on characters that were introduced in other films."
That's actually a pretty short list right now. Black Widow, Falcon, Hawkeye, War Machine. I dunno; a Rocket Raccoon movie might be just crazy enough, but otherwise Guardians looks like a group event at the moment (Nova & Captain Marvel would be the most obvious spinoffs, particularly as comics Capt Marvel has just joined the Guardians AND she's a core Avenger; I think the only one real core Avenger right now that's not in the films).

Assume some of those spawn trilogies, and 30 movies fills up pretty fast. I don't know if they'd really go for a full-fledged reboot, but eventually they'll draft a new Iron Man (RDJ is signed for Avengers 3 but not IM 4) Inhumans are getting a big push in the comics. Runaways has been mentioned in the past, but I think that's a real long shot at best. Cloak & Dagger would be cool.

We might see a full-on movie spin out of a tv show, but I think most characters will stay on one side or the other.

Ghost Rider and Daredevil were released back to Marvel last I knew. It hinted that they may make some sort of cameeo or appearance with the next Avengers movie but that is the internet for you.

As far as the mutant twins.... there are rules to them in the movies. They cannot be referred to as Mutants nor as children of Magneto as the licencing rites are held elsewhere. Bothersome but that's the way of the legal people. I was really hoping to see Spider-man in Avengers.

As far as the Hulk, rumor suggests his next movie will be after Avengers 3 in a Planet Hulk live action. Time will tell.

Thing is, there's no technical reason they cannot do that. Different people hold rights to different characters. They could, if they wanted, make a deal over sharing of revenues and such.

Well the original plan was to insert an Oscorp building into Avengers's NYC, but by the time they got the okay, it was too late to insert it.

Daredevil certainly is. He will be getting a Netflix Original Series, along with Power Man, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.
