MS ActiveSync 4.2/Windows Mobile 5.0: Problem Syncing Outlook Contacts

I just upgraded to a Treo 700w with Windows Mobile 5.0, and I'm using ActiveSync 4.2 to sync Outlook on my local machine with the Treo. The problem is, no matter what I try, I can't get the thing to sync my contacts. When I go into the ActiveSync program on the Treo, it won't let me check the box to sync contacts (it's "greyed out"). I've searched everywhere from Microsoft to Google and I can't find an answer.

Anyone have clue as to what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance! :)

Outlook 2002. Finally found the answer last night though when I called Palm - you have to set the sync contacts option in ActiveSync on the PC desktop, not the device, but with the device connected to the PC. It wouldn't work for me otherwise (during software install or trying to set it on the handheld).

Cool, good to hear you got it working. I love having my contacts on my phone through windows for mobiles. I actually have a domain network with exchange server that I sync with - I'd probably be very lost without that information!

Thanks again for your offer to help. I'm new to Windows Mobile but not to Treo. I'm really loving it, though. :)

I've got the Treos at work set up on Exchange, but nobody is using Windows Mobile here yet. I'm going to be leaving this job soon to consult, so I've set my new device up at home.

I couldn't live without this thing. I don't know how we got out of caves without them. :)
