Mucho Importante Spell Question of the Day

First Post
Besides the obviously overstated title, I do have a serious question about certain spells.

"Targets: One or more creatures, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart"

Now does this mean that the caster has to see all subjects the spell effects? I ask this because we were playing under the assumption you could target one and then it spread like lightening to each of the people around. But then why not make it a radius spell? Also if the spell caster is within 30 ft. of the target does the spellcaster become effected?

Clarification would be wonderful.

For targeted spells, the caster must be able to see each individual target, in order to cast the spell at all. This is the case even for Chain Lightning.

And the spellcaster always chooses who gets hit with a targetted spell - so it doesn't automatically "spread" to him unless he wants it to.

At first, it sounds a lot like an "Area: 30' diameter spread" spell, but there are a lot of differences.

For example, Area spells don't care about invisibility. Area spells can be affected by things like "Sculpt Spell". Area spells aren't affected by Spell Turning...

... etc.
