I'm a big fan of Multi-functionalism. Be that real world technology, or imaginary magical items.
I like items, devices, things, traps, inventions, communications and computing equipment, information systems, codes, ciphers, even monsters and characters that have multiple and sometimes even hidden capabilities or functions.
So in this thread talk about all of the favorite things you as a DM or as a player, or in real life for all I care, have devised, invented, or made use of that have/had multiple functions. Especially if those functions were unique, unusual, secret, or maybe even seemed self-contradictory.
So fire away with your imagination, or give us a cold blast of hard edged super-tech, or an electric bolt of impossibility.
We're all game...
