multi-player games

Friends and I were doing some LAN gaming tonight at his house. We've got a lot of the standard faire (Unreal, dungeonsiege, Medal of Honor, Empire Earth, etc, etc, etc.).

Someone was telling me about a Quake-like game that the military developed that was supposed to be the most realistic FPS game ever made. And, it was free since taxpayer money paid for it. Anyone know where we can get it?

Also, I was curious if there were any other multi-player games out there that were fun, that weren't necessarily mainstream. Web downloads, and such, that anyone could recommend.

p.s., anyone know where I can download MAME roms? I've looked and looked, and have come up empty-handed.

I like playing Aliens vs. Predator 2 on multiplayer

I particularly like survivor mode
Everyone starts as marines and then the first one to die respawns as an alien. Now every marine killed by the alien respawns as an alien. You can guess how it gets the name survivor mode.
