Multiclass Combos

I am all about the Eladrin Mage Commander, aka Wizard w/Warlord Training. Walord w/Warlock Training might also be cool. In fact, I anticipate that multiclassing will suck or rock as a whole. So, if it rocks, ever combo should be fun.

Fighters effectively have a taunt built in, and I bet other classes have something similar (warlords, rogues, warlocks?)

Based on what we have so far, if I wanted to make a DMC clone (I know Dante but not Nero, though I gather they're similar) I'd build a tiefling fighter with Wizard training. Wizard rather than warlock because with an 18 Int you can get away with having light armor. Alternate options are warlord/wizard or warlord/warlock. Eladrin might work well as a race--less DMC-esque, but Fey Step and Eladrin Weapon Training would work nicely.

Big sword/light armour is more prevalent than DMC4, I'd say. Heck, most characters in CRPGs and action-adventures seem to fall into that bucket. Heavy armour is more the exception than the rule when it comes to the protagonists.

I second the Rogue with Hunter's Quarry. I'd give him kind of a 'ronin duelist' personality, and I'd cross out Hunter's Quarry and replace it with 'Go Old School', as in, "Huh, looks like this one's not as frail as the others; I'm gonna have to Go Old School on him."

Most video game protagonists are strikers rather than defenders though. The best tactic in those games is killing them before they even get in a shot and dodging like hell.

For Nero, there's a few options. I'd start out with Warlock, probably infernal pact (though we haven't seen it yet, hard to know). Call 'Eldrich Blast' 'Blue Rose'. :) From there, Student of the Sword... I wouldn't go with Warrior of the Wild since Nero doesn't duel wield. The arm presents a problem, since even as a 'magic item' it technically enhances his strength, gives him improved grab (with reach), lets him swing great distances, and can deflect attacks. Also, for a DMC campaign, you'd need a new armour listing: Badass Longcoat. Same protection as plate, only light armour. :D

Myself, I had a go at an Eladrin Fey-Pact Warlock with Student of the Sword with plans for grabbing Eladrin Soldier at later levels. I've been poking at a concept for a Tiefling but every time I do I hit the Wall of Ignorance. Gonna have to wait for the books, I'm afraid.

If you're looking for that trope in general rather than DMC in specific, all you need is a fighter, paladin, or warlord with a high enough Dex or Int (16+) to make light armor an appealing choice. Kind of interesting that neither of the inherently light-armor, weapon-using classes (rogue, ranger) can really benefit from using a single big sword.

I'm going with a Half-elven Warlord with Wizard training to begin with. Might go with Warlock in-place of Wizard, but I really like the idea of being both the battlefield commander and the bringer of the AoE fire!

I'm tempted by the idea of the Swordmage coming with with FR. Not sure if I'll multi that character, but no matter what I do, my old standby of the Rogue/caster shall return! Warlock for now (Artful Dodger synergy) to be later replaced by the revamped Sorc.
