Multiclassing a fighter

Thank you all for the interesting replies! I am still not too sure what to do, though.

Lamentably, since Dareios skills are pretty low, PrCl-multiclassing will be even more difficult than to find a good core class.

All WotC books, so no real problem here. :)

What's the specific lack in the Fighter class, that drives you away from it (if that is the reason)?

Basically, that a fighter's benefits are high at lower levels, but not in advanced games. Now, it's not really munchkinism that drives me, but kind of boredom. Since the campaign is supposed to go until level 11, I would like to have my character develop some more cool abilities, as the game moves along. I am thinking of multiclassing with the knight class from PHB II, for example. :)

It's a bit difficult to give you advice here, if you do not explain a little about that image. :D

Basically, the usual *honest mercenary* kind of character, a bit like young Guts in the *Berserk* manga series, or like the viking warriors in *The 13th Warrior*.

Well, Cleric won't be the best choice. ;)

Hehehe... For a D&D character, I relaize he is awfully one-dimensional.

What about telling us more about your character? Namely, what the feats you already have are...

:) Voila:

Feats:
Default: Animal Affinity, Enduring Life (Libris Mortis), Iron Will
“Fighter”: Improved Initiative, Blind-Fight, Mounted Combat, Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, Weapon Focus (Longsword)

Here's the full charsheet, btw: Clicky

You probably should do something about your saves. Two levels of Knight or Monk will do nicely. If you take Knight, your 8th level stat increase should go to Cha. From a RP POV Knight would work in with his being offered a Knighthood, but equally, Monk fits with his sense of introspection.

I'm watching this thread closely with interest as I also play a human Ftr6 in the same game with Ivid and was thinking along similar lines. Mind you, I was leaning towards paladin for the Cha boost to saves, Fear immunity etc. Currently have a 13 Cha and could put 8th level bonus point into that to make it a little more attractive. Main feats are Wpn Spec (longsword), Shield Spec and Shield Ward.

I had thought of portraying a paladin in this game, though I decided against it, for that case that party would be chaotic or evil-aligned. Right now, I think a paladin could come in handy, though. :)

Exactly my thoughts. A knight would fit in with the PC's backstory, while the monk is maybe a good choice in terms of gameplay. :)

You had a choice! I had to pick up an NPC. Mind you, he's not a bad one, and I was just happy to join the game. :)

How about Ranger? You have Animal Affinity so it would fit. You could go TWF and pick up Oversized TWF (CW or CA I think). This would get you better reflex saves (not the best with undead) and with a couple levels you could cast spells (or spell) and have a companion.

More skill points would be a bonus as would favored enemy (undead). You'd unfortuneately have to go with light armor.

Some random thoughts:

1) Have you considered a Warblade?

If I understand the value of Fighter levels properly, you should be able to get some decent maneavers and stances. I like White Raven if you are in a melee fighter rich party.

2) Monk is something that just can't go wrong badly wrong with a small dose. The bonus feats build on what you have, the new skills are an improvement and a single point of BAB leads to a lot of increased saving throws.

3) Another possibility is 4 levels of Rogue. It doesn't do anything for the unfortunate will save but adds skills and sneak attack for a relatively small cost. You are in the fortunate position of being able to spend 9 skill points on one skill at a time.

4) If an alignment change to neutral were possible then levels of Barbarian are hands down required. Rage would be a very useful ability.

A game with several fighters? Get some Formation feats :D
Usually a good idea, but in this case it appears the game has a high mortality rate and no raise dead options, yet (aside from becoming a vampire spawn or some other undead :) ), so formation companions may not hang around for long.....

Thank you all, again! :)

The more I think of, the more reasonable seem the rogue or the knight option - no idea how charisma really affects Knights really in-game, but I think this option will be most into with what I envisioned for this character. Now, to find somebody who actually knights him... In village Barovia... ;)

As to Ismark, Legildur, I think he actually has better stats than mine. My campaigns usually are not that long that any character would pass level 5 or 6, so I am kind of unexperienced with advanced levels. :)
