Multiple Grapplers and a Miniature Dwarf

Col. Forbin

First Post
We had a situation last night where our party Wizard, a 2' tall dwarf (the result of an unfortuante encounter with an evil spellbook), was grappled by a beastie with Improved Grab and Constrict.

Obviously, this is a bit of a suboptimal position for the wee man, so our valient druid (who was conveniently wild shaped into a dire ape) tried to get the nasty beast off the poor dwarf.

At this point, collectively having a low Knowledge (3.5 Grapple Rules) score we consulted our PHB's and were unable to find a ruling for resolving this situation.

The Ape automatically suceeded at his Grab (as you do when the thing you are trying to grapple is already grappled) and then easily won the opposed grapple check to enter the fray.

Now here is where the problems started.

Rules about Multiple Grapplers talk about grappling with multiple opponents, but did not shed much light on what if any assistance the ape could give to the dwarf.

The desired result (to pull the beast off the dwarf) was not covered by the rules.

Can this be done?
